A good pair does not need a caption to explain it. The viewer should see, in a second, what changed and what stayed the same. The steps below are the ones that make that difference.
- Start with two photos taken from the same place, at the same distance, in similar light. When the angle changes, the eye spends its time working out what moved, instead of seeing what changed.
- Put the earlier photo first and the later photo second, so the reading order matches the story. If you swap them by mistake, use the swap control before you download.
- Line the subject up in the same part of the frame in both photos. A door, a chair, or a plant that stays in place gives the viewer a fixed point to compare against.
- Choose the split that suits the change. A side-by-side split suits a room or a garden; a top-and-bottom split suits a tall object, such as a shelf or a doorway.
- Pick the export size before you download, and turn the labels on only if your audience needs them. Labels in the audience language make the pair clear when the image is shared without a caption.
Check it small before you share it
Check the finished image at the size people will actually see it, not only at full size on a large screen. If the change is hard to spot when the image is small, move the split, reframe one photo, or pick a pair with clearer light. Keep both photos honest: use the same scene, and do not add a filter to one photo that changes its colours, or the comparison will look staged rather than real.
