Instagram product carousel ideas made with AI (12 templates + prompts)
A single product photo asks for a like. A carousel asks for a swipe, and every swipe is a small yes that keeps the post alive. Instagram allows up to 20 slides in a carousel in 2026, but the carousels that convert for small sellers usually run six to ten slides: long enough to answer the real doubts, short enough that people finish. The winning size is 1080 by 1350 pixels, the 4:5 portrait ratio, on every slide, because the first slide sets the ratio for the whole post and mixed ratios get cropped. Below are twelve templates you can reuse for almost any physical product, each with a prompt you can copy, a slide order that works, and the mistake that kills that particular template.
Before the templates: three rules for every carousel
First, one product master, repeated unchanged. Write one sentence for your product, material, colour, size and one distinguishing detail, and paste it into every image prompt. If the bottle changes colour between slide one and slide five, the carousel reads as two different products, and the swipe stops. Second, slide two is a second cover. Instagram may show a carousel again to someone who scrolled past it, starting at slide two, so slide two must work on its own: a benefit, a detail or a question, not a filler image. Third, one idea per slide and one action at the end. A slide that tries to explain three features explains none of them, and a last slide that asks for a follow, a save, a comment and a shop visit gets none of them. Pick one action, usually save this post, and put the shop link in the caption and bio, not burned into the images.
Keep text large and short. Body text below about 24 points at full size becomes unreadable on a phone feed, and a paragraph crammed onto a slide will be skipped even if the information is good. Generate the image, add the short text in your design tool rather than asking the image model to render long sentences, and check the whole carousel on your phone at feed size before posting. A carousel that only reads well at full screen does not work, because the feed is where the decision to swipe happens.

The 12 templates
Replace the bracketed product description with your own master sentence. Keep the product description identical across all slides in a carousel, and generate four variants per slide, keeping only the one that passes its job.

A useful test before posting is the slide-two test. Cover slide two and ask whether the carousel still makes sense if a viewer enters there. If slide two is a random lifestyle image with no benefit and no question, rewrite it as a second cover: the main benefit in one line, or the detail that makes this product different. The same test applies to the last slide. If it contains three different asks, cut it to one, and put the other asks in the caption, where they do not compete for the swipe.
Build the images in the product studio, check the ratio for every slide in the marketplace photo specs tool, and check the disclosure wording in the AI disclosure guide if your carousel shows a photorealistic person or makes a claim about a real product. The small-shop photo guide and the remove-background guide cover the same product-master discipline for single images, which is where a carousel usually goes wrong first.
Sizes, captions and the honest limits of AI images
Export every slide at 1080 by 1350 pixels, JPEG or PNG, under 30 megabytes per slide, and keep all slides in the same ratio. A 1080 by 1440, 3:4 image also displays uncropped in the feed, but if you post through a scheduling tool or the publishing API, 1080 by 1350 is the safer default, because the API still accepts only 4:5 down to 1.91:1. Write the caption as context, not as a repeat of the slides: two lines that name the product, the benefit and the one action, plus searchable keywords. The slides carry the story; the caption earns the click to your shop or bio link.
AI images must depict the exact product you sell, in colour, material and proportions. That rule matters more on Instagram than it first appears, because a carousel that invents a feature will be screenshotted, commented on and returned, long after the post stops getting likes. If a generated variant drifts, regenerate it or photograph the real product. For a photorealistic person in a carousel, check the platform label rules before posting: Meta requires a label for photorealistic video and realistic-sounding audio made or altered with AI, and says images are outside that requirement, though it may still label detected AI images automatically. A sponsored carousel needs a paid-partnership disclosure on top, and an AI label never replaces it.
Honest limits
- Instagram changes carousel specs and ranking signals without a single announcement page for every detail. The 20-slide limit and 1080 by 1350 default above reflect 2026 guides; check the app before a major campaign, and treat engagement claims from third parties as a reason to test your own carousel, not as a promised result.
- AI images must depict the exact product you ship. Do not publish an almost-right image and hope the buyer does not notice.
- In Movapix, images cost about $0.008 per successful generation, with no subscription. Credits never expire, and an unused wallet balance can be refunded within 7 days. Commercial use is allowed, and images are private by default.
