TikTok Shop product video specs 2026: size, length, what gets rejected

Most TikTok Shop videos do not fail because the product is bad. They fail because the file is the wrong shape, the product appears too late, the text sits under a button, or the clip breaks a rule the seller never read. TikTok Shop is stricter than a normal post, because the video is attached to a checkout: the product shown must match the product sold, claims must be supportable, and the format must fit a vertical phone screen with shopping controls on top of it. This guide gives the specs to plan to, the length that works, and the rejection reasons to check before you upload. Policies differ by market and change during the year, so your Seller Center is the final word.

The specs to plan to

Plan every TikTok Shop video as a vertical master, even if you later cut other formats from it. Shoot or generate at 1080 by 1920 pixels, 9:16, so it fills the phone screen without cropping, and export as MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. The file ceiling in TikTok advertising references is 500 megabytes, but a 15 to 30 second clip at a sensible bitrate lands well under 100 megabytes, uploads faster, and plays smoothly on a weak connection. Use 30 frames per second, or 60 for fast motion such as a pour or a spin.

SpecPlan to thisPlatform ceiling or floor
Aspect ratio9:16 vertical, full screenOther shapes suit some ads, but a Shop video in another shape gets cropped by phone and controls
Resolution1080 by 1920 pixels540 by 960 is the cited minimum for 9:16 ads; below 1080 it looks soft
Format and codecMP4, H.264 video, AAC audio at 128 kbps or higher, stereoMP4 or MOV accepted; MP4 is the safe export everywhere
File sizeUnder 100 megabytes in practice500 megabytes maximum in TikTok advertising references
Length15 to 30 seconds for most productsShop guidance cites 9 to 60 seconds; paid in-feed ads can run to 10 minutes, but that is not a Shop plan
Frame rate30 frames per second60 frames per second for fast motion only

Length deserves a note, because two numbers circulate and both are true in different places. For a Shop video, plan 15 to 30 seconds: long enough to show the product doing its job, short enough that most viewers finish it, which is what recommendations reward. Clips of 9 to 15 seconds suit a single, obvious product, such as a bottle or a bag, where one demonstration is the whole pitch. Go past 45 seconds only when the product genuinely needs it, and only if every extra second shows something new.

Structure: the first three seconds, then proof, then the ask

TikTok's creative guidance for Shop sellers, as reported in May 2026 coverage, breaks a shoppable video into three parts: a hook in the first three to six seconds that relates to the product, a key message focused on benefits, and a call to action, spoken or on screen. That structure is guidance, not a rule, but it explains almost every non-technical rejection. If the product is not visible in the first three seconds, the viewer has no reason to stay. If the middle is only a claim, with no demonstration, there is no reason to believe it. If there is no ask, there is no reason to tap.

Write the hook as a product moment, not a greeting or logo animation: the bottle pouring, the bag zipping around a laptop, the lamp switching on in a dark room, the tool tightening the bolt it was bought for. Then prove one thing, once, clearly: capacity, fit, brightness, strength or ease, whatever the listing promises and the video can show. End with one ask, such as tapping the product card. Say the price only if it matches the listing when viewed; many sellers let the product card carry it.

15-second structure, copy and adaptSeconds 0 to 3: product in use, full frame, no greeting. Seconds 3 to 12: one demonstration of the main benefit. Seconds 12 to 15: result shot, then one ask to tap the product card.

Safe zones: where text and the product must not sit

A Shop video is watched under interface controls that hide whatever sits beneath them: the product card and buttons at the bottom, the username area at the top, and like, comment and share controls down the right edge. 2026 Shop spec guides agree on the conclusion even when percentages differ: keep essential text and the product in the centre, out of the bottom fifth and the top tenth, and away from the right edge. Put captions in the middle band, keep the product large and centred, and never place a price, size or key claim where the product card will cover it.

Test this on a phone, not in an editor preview: can you read every caption without a control covering a word, is the product visible in every shot without a button crossing it, and does the final ask sit above the product card? If any answer is no, move the text. The auto-subtitles guide covers caption timing under the same centre-band rule.

What gets rejected, or kept out of recommendations

ReasonWhat it looks likeFix before resubmitting
Wrong or mismatched productVideo shows a different colour, model or size than the linked listing; AI warps a logo, lid or shapeMatch the video to the listing exactly; regenerate any shot where the product drifts
Product appears too late, or never clearlyLong intro or montage, product only in the backgroundProduct in use within three seconds, visible throughout
Still-image slideshow, no real motionPhotos crossfading with music, no footage of the product movingReal motion of the product being handled; Shop guidance expects dynamic footage, not a slideshow
Another platform's watermarkEditor or app badge burned inExport clean, with no third-party watermark
Copyrighted music or unlicensed audioA chart song as the soundtrackUse licensed sounds, original audio, or royalty-free music you have rights to
Exaggerated or absolute claimsInstant results, guaranteed outcomes, cure claims, unproven lowest-price promisesShow what the product does, and leave medical, financial and absolute claims out
Before-and-after in a paid adEffect comparison used as ad creative, though Shop's guide lists it for organic contentKeep before-and-after out of paid ads; keep organic comparisons honest and unfiltered
Undisclosed AI or commercial contentAI video with no AI label where required, or seller video with no commercial disclosureTurn on AI and commercial disclosure settings where they apply; never present an AI presenter as a real customer
Reused supplier clip, nothing newSupplier video reposted unchangedAdd your own demonstration or voiceover; unoriginal material can lose For You eligibility even when not removed

Two distinctions in that table matter. First, rejection and loss of recommendation differ: a rejected video does not run, while a video not eligible for recommendation still exists but will not appear in the For You feed, which for a Shop video is almost the same as not existing. Fix the exact reason in the notification before appealing. Second, an AI video is not automatically a violation, and a real video is not automatically safe. TikTok permits AI promotional video, but the product shown must match the product delivered, and AI that invents a feature, size or logo is misleading advertising.

Make it with AI without breaking the product-accuracy rule

The safest AI workflow starts from your real product, not a text description of a generic one. Use a real photo or a generated image checked against the real product, keep the product description identical across shots, and check the clip frame by frame for drift: does the lid change shape, does the logo warp, does a 750 millilitre bottle become a small mug in the next cut? Reviewers and buyers compare the video with the delivered product, and repeated violations can cost affiliate authorisation. Generate generously, publish strictly, and reject any clip where the product itself changes.

Build the vertical master first, then cut captions around it. The product studio keeps one product description across scenes, the erase tool cleans a stray mark before it becomes a frame, and the pay-per-video guide prices the clip: about 2.4 cents in Movapix, so testing three hooks costs little, while one misleading video costs the listing. Export at 1080 by 1920, run the phone check, then upload to Seller Center.

Honest limits

  • Specs and policies differ by market and change during the year. The numbers above reflect 2026 Shop spec guides and TikTok advertising references checked in October 2026; your Seller Center for your market is the final word.
  • This is a production guide, not legal or policy advice. Health, financial and regulated products carry extra rules; check the category rules before filming.
  • In Movapix, images cost about 0.8 cents and short videos about 2.4 cents per successful generation, with no subscription. Credits never expire, and an unused wallet balance can be refunded within 7 days. Commercial use is allowed.
